Critical Transformations and Futures

Guest Lecture on Emotions and Imagination in Futures-Led Sustainability Work at Aalto University

I had the pleasure of joining Aalto University’s Creative Sustainability Master’s programme as a guest lecturer in the “Critical Transformations and Futures” course.

During the lecture, I introduced students to the vital role that emotions and imagination play in futures-led work. We explored the dystopia/utopia binary and discussed key emotions that drive sustainability transformations. The session blended theory with practical approaches for collective imagination work, helping students engage deeply with the challenges and possibilities of shaping sustainable futures.

It was inspiring to connect with such curious and passionate students who are eager to rethink and reshape what sustainability can look like through creative and emotional engagement.

Thank you to the programme team for the opportunity to contribute to this exciting course. I look forward to continuing to support emerging leaders in sustainability and futures thinking, and giving back to the Creative Sustainability community!
